Glitter Shoes!!

Friday, December 16, 2011

So I have been in love with the EPIC Glitter Wedges that have been tempting me in Schuh since November. I knew I could never afford them at €85!! and knowing I would only get about 3 wears out of them before I throw them away from the pain (if you have read my previous posts I'm not a heel wearer), so it just wasn't a good idea. I couldn't stop thinking of them though especially coming up to Christmas glitter is just necessary so I said I should improvise.
I looked up a few tutorial online and this is a slight mix of all the ones I thought worked well.

What youll need:
  • Shoes!:P I got mine in Dunnes for €10 down from €30!
  • PVA Glue (or Modge Podge if your in America). I got an industrial strength one but a craft store version would work just as well.
  • Glitter!! Whatever color you want fine or coarse. I chose a coarse multi- colored one.
  • Flat Paintbrushes- a medium size and a small
  • Kitchen paper
  • Masking tape (I only had sellotape but worked just as well)
  • A cup, a bowl and a tablespoon
  • Clear gloss spray

Step 1:
Mask off any areas of the shoe you don't want covered in glitter, so for me that was the sole and the inside of the shoe that I also stuffed with the kitchen paper.

Step 2:
Pour a half a cup full of PVA in your cup and mix in some glitter, making sure its stays runny so it is easy to spread.

Step 3:
Pour your glitter in a large bowl and have your spoon at the ready.

Start these next steps in stages. I did mine in 3 so it would be easier to hold, the front of the shoe (leave to dry for an hour), the back of the shoe (leave an hour) and then the heel.

Step 4:
Paint a thin layer of glue over the area you want covered. I painted 2 because they are suede is soaked up a lot of it and begin ladling the glitter onto the shoe making sure all glue areas are well covered. Press lightly with the back of the spoon to make sure it is well stuck then shake off excess. Let dry. Again you will do this in 3 stages.

Step 5:
When all the shoes are covered do a spot check and if needed reapply the glue and glitter. Leave them dry overnight.

Step 6:
This step isn't necessary but will help the life of the shoes and will stop glitter randomly falling wherever you go. Shake can well and spray a thin layer, let dry the add another 2 or 3 more layers depending on what you think they need.

Step 7:
Peel off masking tape carefully.

AND DONE! Now you have some pretty glitter heels more than half the price of what you would pay in the shop! And just in time for Christmas! :)
